Lake Toba, North Sumatera

Lake Toba, Left The Deepest Impression on My Heart

By Benediktus Beben

Lake Toba, North SumateraJourney Into North Sumatra began at October 14th to 18th 2010. With a domestic flight, we arrived at Polonia Airport, Medan. The weather is very hot in this town but we are very enthusiastic. We were escorted by Asdo, driver as well as a guide to begin the journey to Lake Toba in the town of Parapat. The journey taken about 4 hours.

Along the way, we saw some of the party being held at the curb. Apparently people in particular Sumatran Batak tribe, like the party for various celebrations, weddings, party’s success, the party of death, etc.. Our guide said, if the parents die and children are married all, it was a success for them and should not be mourned so have held a party.

Travel through several villages and towns with beautiful views. Mountains, valleys, traditional Batak houses, all refresh our minds. The closer to Lake Toba, the weather was cold but refreshing. And it would be amazement when already visible from the street of beautiful Lake Toba lies below us. Lake Toba really did not expect it soon Spacious and very beautiful, with blue as the ocean waters.

From the window of room where we stayed, beautiful views of Lake Toba splayed wide spoil our eyes. Woow… never ending admiration blaze out of our mouths. Views of the lake with a typical rural houses, cottages, boats, and a friendly population increase admiration and pride. Indonesia is very beautiful, nothing is as beautiful lake in the world. The world must know and have a lot of people come to this place.

In the afternoon I walked the way around where we stayed. To the market, to the pier where the boats docked and into stores that sell souvenirs. while it is located near a traditional market, I hear the traditional music flowing. Apparently there is a wedding again, guests are dancing the spirit of dance accompanied by music. Great, in the middle of the market no matter their party with a potluck.

The next morning after breakfast, we depart by ship crossing to Samosir Island. The island is located right in the middle of Lake Toba. At first I thought the island was small but it was broad. Perhaps more widely from Singapore .. Amazing.

In Samosir island, we visited Ambarita village to see the making ULOS, traditional cloth used in Batak tribe for any celebration , and see civilization from the Stone age tribes Sialagan which is one of the tribal / indigenous Samosir Island and also visited Tomok village view ancient tribal burial Sidabutar and buy a little souvenirs for memories.

The third day, we had to leave Parapat into Berastagi , a small town near Sinabung volcano. on the way to Berastagi, we passed the other side of the Lake Toba. We do not drop breakup admire the beauty of Lake Toba along our journey, in each there is a beautiful place against the backdrop of Lake Toba we stopped to take pictures. We stopped at the village Simarjarunjung enjoy a cup of ginger drinks and fried bananas are very good in very cold weather.

After that see Sipiso Piso waterfall from a distance. At noon we arrived at the Mount Simalem for lunch. Simalem Park is a new resort with hotels, restaurants, meeting rooms, organic plantations, and majestic scenery. We were invited to tour with the marketing staff called Mr. Daniel. Indeed the more amazed we see a view of Lake Toba from the top of this hill. Anyway, Lake Toba is extraordinary, beautiful and amazing from every angle. Thank God, thou hast brought us to this beautiful place and met many nice people.

One night left to enjoy the hospitality of North Sumatra in Berastagi. Lake Toba still leaves a very beautiful memories in our minds.

Remember! only one word you should say when visiting northern Sumatra as a greeting. Horas!
